Imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery, it’s cheap. It hurts both parties: both the person who copies and the person/ people being imitated. The copier is denying themselves the ability to reach their potential and make real connections.
Imitation and being inspired are two different things. It helps if you pull your inspiration outside of your area of study. Example: You want to be an artist so you should pull inspiration outside of art. Watch films. Observe nature. Read!
Jessica Hische wrote a brilliant post about it! Don’t cheat yourself (and the person you’re imitating!) Develop your own voice.
Note: Copying is either an ignorant of blatantly rude thing to do. You’re taking something it took that person years to develop. Evolution based on personal experiences.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to fully revive my Etsy since, like, 2009, primarily due to balancing my full-time job with my freelance work and my dumb life. I am hoping to restock my Etsy sometime this year (and even sell some stuff at Boston Comic Con, maybe???) but I just need to fully prepare all of my shipping supplies and stuff.
I LOVE your fashion sense. Where do you normally shop online? I think I saw you post something about Oasap and I know all the regular places like Forever 21, Hot Topic, etc, what are the others? (Not necessarily comic related, you just dress hella cute in general)
Here are some of my favorite online shops right now:
