Best Art Ever (This Week) - Superman 75th Anniversary Edition

We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great images on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, and some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it’s awesome.
In honor of this year’s 75th anniversary of the first appearance of Superman and this weekend’s release of Man of Steel, we present for the second time a compilation of some of the coolest portraits of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s brilliant creation that we’ve highlighted in this feature over the last few years. New ‘Man of Steel’ Trailer Puts the (It’s Not An) ‘S’ In Superman

The Kryptonian countdown clock running on I Will Find Him hit zero Tuesday night and revealed a new theatrical trailer for Man of Steel. Promoting the new Zack Snyder film based on the DC Comics superhero created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the clip answers the dour tone of the earlier presentations with some rousing, heroic business. Included are some tantalizing action shots and an exchange between Lois Lane and Superman that for many skeptical ComicsAlliance readers will earn the film more than the benefit of the doubt.

Parting Shot: This Fake ‘Man Of Steel’ Ad Needs To Be Real
At Comic-Con in 2008, I stepped onto a hotel elevator and instantly found myself in the sky. At least, it felt that way. It was actually a very creative ad for Pixar’s Up that involved painting the inside of the elevator to look like the sky from the film, with Carl’s balloon-powered flying house in the corner, looking to be off in the distance. The ad always stuck with me, as I thought it was an imaginative — and very effective — way to promote a film, and easily the best use of advertising in an elevator I’d ever seen.
That is, until I saw this proposed ad for this summer’s Man of Steel, submitted to the Chip Shop Awards by Jon Massey and Ryan Brown. Massey and Brown take advantage of elevator design to present the classic image of Clark Kent opening his shirt to reveal the Superman logo underneath.
